Description

FILON has been supplying high-quality, industrial rooflights to the building and construction industry for more than 60 years. The profiled rooflights are made from glass reinforced polyester resin (GRP) – also known as fibreglass – with unique light diffusing additives that scatter light to provide effective daylighting without hot spots, excessive glare or shadow. Available in over 900 different profiles, products are designed to match all current and most discontinued asbestos cement and metal roofing profiles.

Manufactured from specially developed glass-reinforced plastic (GRP) using polyester resins and glass reinforcement matting, Filon Fotolite GRP sheets boast the unrivalled benefits of this specialised composite material, including:

  • Maximum impact resistance
  • Extreme versatility
  • Ease of installation and handling
  • High corrosion and fire resistance
  • Outstanding durability yet extremely lightweight
  • To prevent yellowing, enhanced UV and weathering protection is provided by Filon Protect, a special polyester film surface, incorporated during the manufacturing process.

The combined properties of Filon Fotolite GRP sheets open the door to a wide variety of uses within the horticultural sector. Fotolite profiles can be used for complete claddings on multi-span, tunnel and pitched roof greenhouses and garden centres, providing a durable and long-lasting option for commercial growers. Fotolite GRP sheets can also be fixed to steel, aluminium and timber cloches and cold frame structures which help extend the growing season of plants by protecting them from the elements.

Benefits:

Discover how your horticultural roofing projects can benefit from Filon Fotolite GRP sheets.

  • Exceptional light diffusion – Filon Fotolite GRP sheets provide excellent light diffusion, reducing glare and hot spots whilst ensuring plants are evenly illuminated. They also provide a high transmission of photosynthetic wavebands which are essential for plant growth. These qualities ensure plants receive the full spectrum of light they need to grow and thrive.
  • Guaranteed protection – Filon GRP sheets are resistant to common greenhouse pesticides and organic and chemical fertilisers. They are also rot and vermin-proof, and virtually opaque to UV light which can cause leaf burn, ensuring maximising protection at all times.
  • Highly Durable – The range of horticultural GRP sheets are known for their impact resistance and extreme durability which is essential for protecting against falling debris or other external hazards. GRP ensures a long lifespan and reduces the need for frequent maintenance and replacements, compared to traditional polyethene applications.
  • Resistant to weather extremes – To combat diffuse climates, the range of horticultural GRP sheets have been designed to remain unaffected by extremes of temperature from –20ºC to +100ºC.
